Traditional Arctic Circle Summer Market attracted a record number of visitors to Santa Claus Village

The Arctic Circle Summer Market, now held for the third time, drew a record-breaking crowd to Santa Claus Village on the weekend of 13–14 June 2026. The first day of the event — a sunny Saturday with temperatures exceeding 20 degrees Celsius — attracted around 1,400 visitors. Although rainy weather and a storm that broke out in the afternoon reduced visitor numbers on the second day, Sunday, the crowd was boosted by the arrival of the Yle 100 bus — a special touring bus organised by Yle, the Finnish national public broadcaster, as part of its centenary celebrations, travelling across Finland throughout the summer.

Among the visitors of the summer market were both local residents and tourists from different continents who had come to greet Santa Claus and cross the Arctic Circle.

During the event, businesses from both Santa Claus Village and the surrounding area showcased and sold their products and services. Sustainable living was promoted at the market, for example by Pidä Lappi Siistinä ry (Keep Lapland Tidy Association), which provided recycling guidance at its stand. The atmosphere of the event was enriched by performances from musicians Simodeus and Matti Korva. As this is a FIFA World Cup summer, local football clubs RoPS and FC Santa Claus Junior were also offering activities for visitors.
