Forest Museum of Lapland

Step into the world of the lumberjacks!

The Forestry Museum of Lapland (in Finnish Lapin Metsämuseo) tells the story of the logging era — of lumberjacks, the women who supported them, and Finnish grit. Located 12 km from Santa Claus Village (about a 15-minute drive), the museum explores the lives of lumberjacks from the early days of industrialisation through to the 1960s.

On the backs of lumberjacks, the success of Finland and Lapland was built, both before and after the wars. This hard work and way of life are given a face at the Forest Museum. The work, tools, and everyday life of the lumberjacks have been preserved as valuable cultural heritage.

The museum area includes 14 authentic buildings and sites brought from various parts of Lapland. The locations range from a simple horse stable to culturally significant sites such as Uitto 6 and the Sandberg’s Locomotive.

The museum is located in Pöykkölä on the shore of Lake Salmijärvi, about 12 km from Santa Claus Village, with good transport connections, that doesn’t require you to drive through the city. You can visit the museum independently or book a guide to tell the stories of the forest workers.

Buy your ticket at the main building or visit with a Museum Card. Outside regular opening hours, the museum is open by reservation. For bookings, contact us by email or through the museum’s website.
